Crime scene

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident where a 10-year-old boy died after jumping from the fourth floor of a residential apartment in South B, Nairobi.

The incident happened on the evening of February 24, police and the family said.

The victim was a grade six pupil at Our Lady of Mercy in the area, police said.

A review of security footage at the apartment showed he ran upstairs and jumped off, falling on the ground floor.

It is not clear what motivated him. Police said they are investigating the incident.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said they suspect the boy died by suicide. He sustained fatal head injuries.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Elsewhere, detectives are investigating the murder of a traditional dancer in a village in Rangwe, Homa Bay County.

The deceased was identified as Robert Ochieng, 42, and was a member of Kochia Traditional Dancers.

His body was found in Olare Trading Centre and rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries on February 24, 2026.

He and a group of dancers had on February 21, 2026 attended a political event in Siaya where they performed before returning home. Ochieng, however, did not return to his house, which raised concerns from his family until the following day, when his body was found in the area.

Police said the body had multiple injuries on the face and was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Cases of violence linked to politics have been on the rise amid concerns of more chaos ahead.

Police blame most of the incidents on bad politics.

And 25 people were attacked and injured at a disputed piece of land in Lower Yatta, Kitui county.

This was after a group of about 100 people invaded the B2 Ranching Cooperative Society, where the victims were camping, waiting for fencing of the property to start.

The assailants were armed with crude weapons and also robbed the victims of their cash and electronics.

Police were called to the scene to pursue the attackers.

Police said two suspects were arrested after being found with bags belonging to some of the victims, and that at least 13 of those attacked remained in hospital with multiple injuries.

The hunt for more suspects continued on Thursday amid calls for justice, police said.
