A fresh controversy has erupted in Kenya’s fast-growing boxing scene after Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria confronted popular boxer Mbavu Destroyer over allegations that he made “fake promises” to support his career.

The dispute centres around claims that Mosiria had allegedly promised Mbavu Destroyer a professional boxing coach and a house to stay in.

It is alleged that he failed to fulfil these commitments.

The matter escalated after allegations surfaced that Mosiria had demanded Sh200,000 from Mbavu Destroyer if he wins his upcoming match against Majembe Majembe, scheduled for April 4th.

In a phone call between the two, Mosiria directly addressed the accusations, questioning why his name had been dragged into claims of financial demands.

“Lemme ask you, mimi nlikulipia gym. Na nikakusort kila kitu mpaka nikalipa trainer. Mbona unasema saizi ati Mosiria alikuitisha 200 thousand? What for?” Mosiria questioned Mbavu Destroyer.

Mosiria’s remarks suggested that he had already facilitated gym access and paid for a trainer. This support was intended for the boxer’s preparation.

His response appeared to challenge the narrative that he had neglected his promises or tried to benefit financially from Mbavu’s potential victory.

In response, Mbavu Destroyer distanced Mosiria from the claims, attributing the allegations to his manager.

“My manager was the one who came up with the story; he was the one who even told Obinna, and he even told me to be cautious,” Mbavu Destroyer responded during the phone conversation.

The boxer’s statement indicates that the Sh200,000 claim and the narrative about “fake promises” may have originated from his management team rather than from his personal position.

His clarification appears to shift responsibility away from Mosiria and onto his manager, raising further questions about internal communication within his camp.

The timing of the controversy is significant, coming just days before Mbavu Destroyer’s highly anticipated bout against Majembe Majembe.

The April 4 fight has already attracted public attention, with both fighters engaging in verbal exchanges and public interviews in the lead-up to the match.

The dispute also adds another layer of drama to Mbavu Destroyer’s preparations, as questions emerge about the stability of his management team and the accuracy of public statements made on his behalf.

Neither Mosiria nor Mbavu Destroyer has publicly announced any legal action regarding the claims.

However, the phone conversation has fueled online discussions among fans, many of whom are closely following developments ahead of the fight.
