A two-year-old girl drowned on Sunday while playing in a water canal near a church in Thiba, Kirinyaga county.

Officials said the child had accompanied her parents to a church event when the incident happened.

They had been to Kiungano Kia Roho Mutheru Church Moroto for Sunday service when the child left unnoticed to a nearby water canal where she drowned.

The body with no visible marks was found to have been pushed downstream about 300 metres from the church and was moved to the mortuary for preservation and postmortem.

In Kariobangi South, Nairobi, a man was found dead in a lodging in a suspected suicide mission.

Police identified him as Masakhwe Wesonga, 37.

He had checked into the room on Saturday night before he hanged himself using a manilla rope.

A cleaner at the facility was concerned the tenant had not woken up to leave as planned and knocked on the door but there was no response. It was then that she called for help to open the door when they found the body hanging on the rope.

A suicide note with the contacts of his family was found in the room as the body was moved to the mortuary.

In Makuyu, Muranga county, James Kiarie's body was found along a small path at Marura village after a suspected murder.

He had a deep cut on the forehead suspected to have been caused by a blunt object, police said, adding he was a casual labourer in the area. The motive of the murder was not immediately known and the body was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem.

In Savanah, Nairobi, a man was found murdered and his body abandoned on the roadside. Residents suspected he is a member of the street families. The body had head injuries and was moved to the mortuary for identification and postmortem, police said.

A man was beaten to death as he demanded Sh7,000 owed to him over work he had done at a charcoal burning site in Kinna, Isiolo county.

Police said they had arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of Hussein Shune. Shune had gone to the site to demand a debt he was owed over supply of two charcoal kilns.

This prompted an altercation that led to him being fatally assaulted. Police visited the scene and found the body under a tree.

The deceased’s trousers had been lowered to the knee point, police said.

Police said they recovered a blood stained charcoal kiln support cane believed to have been the murder weapon as they moved the body to the mortuary pending postmortem.

Two witnesses were questioned over the incident which happened on February 20.
