Mexican security forces killed Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, widely known as “El Mencho,” in a military operation on 22 February 2026 in Jalisco state.

He was the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of Mexico’s most powerful criminal organisations.

The operation involved the Mexican Army and National Guard, supported by intelligence from the United States, and resulted in El Mencho’s death from wounds sustained during the raid.
