Eight people connected to a Mlolongo narcotics case appeared in court on Friday, including six men and two women, before Mavoko Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Nazushi.
While taking plea virtually from Mlolongo police station in Machakos County, where they had been held since their arrest early Thursday, all eight denied the charges and were released on bond of varying amounts.
They face charges of possession of narcotic drugs contrary to Section 3(1) as read with Section 3(2) of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Control Act No. 4 of 2022.
The particulars of the offence indicate that on February 19, 2026, at 0150 hrs in Mlolongo Township, Athi River East Subcounty, the individuals were found in possession of cannabis saliva (bhang), which was not medically prepared and not authorised under the Act.
Each person was charged separately, and the charges were read to them.
Jacinter Kendi is charged with possession of 383 rolls of bhang. She denied the charge and was released on a Sh200,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount.
“The court has released you on a Sh200,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount. Your case is scheduled for March 5 for mention,” Nazushi ordered.
Sheila Mueni, the second individual facing a similar charge, was released on a Sh200,000 bond with a similar surety. Court records indicate she was found in possession of 285 rolls of bhang. Her case is also set for mention on March 5.
Frank Macharia denied possession of 435 rolls of bhang. He was released on a Sh300,000 bond with a similar surety, and his case will be mentioned on March 5.
George Wanjoi was released on a Sh200,000 bond after being found in possession of 39 rolls of bhang. He pleaded not guilty, with his case set for mention on March 5.
Jimmy Kimani, reported to have had 12 rolls of bhang, was released on a Sh100,000 bond with a similar surety. Josephat Odipo, Marcus Ali, and Alex Musyoka were released on Sh200,000, Sh300,000, and Sh100,000 bonds, respectively.
Odipo is listed as having had 202 rolls, Ali 21 rolls and 30 sachets of bhang cookies, and Musyoka 19 rolls.
The court directed that the individuals be held at Athi River G.K Prisons in Kitengela, Kajiado County, as their bonds were processed.
Seventeen other individuals appeared before the same court on charges of being drunk and disorderly. They all pleaded guilty and were fined Sh500 each, with an alternative of one month detention. Nazushi said they were given 14 days to appeal.
