A 40-year-old woman died in hospital after she was stabbed by a suspect believed to be her husband during a domestic fight in Kirinyaga’s Baricho area.

Police said Mary Wambua Mugweru was stabbed in the chest on February 15 following a fight at her house and was rushed to hospital, where she died two days later.

The suspected assailant escaped from the scene after the incident and had not been arrested by Wednesday, February 18, 2026, police said, adding that a manhunt was under way.

Police visited the scene and recovered blood-stained sandals believed to have been worn by the deceased.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, police in Matete, Kakamega County, are investigating an incident in which a teacher was found dead in a suspected murder.

The deceased, identified as Stephen Keraro Obieto, 50, was a teacher at Makwabuye Comprehensive School.

His body was found lying in a pool of blood with a fractured left hand. It also had a deep cut on the ankle.

Police said the body was moved to the mortuary pending a post-mortem and investigations.

No arrest had been made by Sunday in connection with the murder. Police said they were yet to establish the motive.

In Siakago, Embu County, Njeru Marumba, 75, was found dead after a fire swept through his house.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known, police said, as the body was moved to the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Police are also investigating an incident in which a 67-year-old woman died after falling from the balcony of a residential building in Kiambu Town.

It is not clear how or why Alicadah Nginda fell from the seventh floor of the building in the February 13, 2026 incident, police said.

Her body was found in a drainage area behind the building and moved to the mortuary.

Police said they were investigating both suicide and murder. A team visited the scene from which she is believed to have fallen as part of the probe.

Elsewhere in Tebesi, Kegonga, Migori County, a four-year-old boy drowned in a river.

The body had visible bruises on the knees and forehead when it was discovered on Tuesday in the Tebesi River, police said.

The family said he had been reported missing after failing to return home from school on Monday.

A missing person report had been filed before the body was found and later moved to the mortuary pending a post-mortem and other procedures.
