
The body of a woman who has been missing was found in a bush in Ithekahuno, Tetu, Nyeri county.
The February 12 discovery led to the arrest of a suspect in Mathira, police said.
The suspect had earlier tried to lie that two police officers had tasked him to assassinate a member of parliament.
He informed the MP of the said plan prompting an identification parade on February 13 at the Karatina police station where he pinpointed two police officers attached to the DCI.
The said MP accompanied him at the police station.
This prompted a probe, which later revealed that on January 29, a missing person report was made at Karatina police station by a woman who reported that her sister Beatrice Nyawira aged 23 was missing.
The complainant was referred to DCI Mathira East office and the following day, the two officers accompanied her to the house of the missing lady where she was staying with the suspect.
They found the suspect alone in the house.
The officers then detained the suspect and took him to the station for interrogation and later released him the same day pending investigations.
It was until February 12 when news of the discovery of the body of Nyawira that the suspect went to make the claims of assassination, police said.
After the family identified the body of the woman, the suspect was arrested and detained pending further probe, police said.

The probe is ongoing and postmortem was planned on the body of the woman.
In Nunguni, Makueni county, one Muvoye Mulandi, 67, was found dead after a suspected murder.
Residents said she died by suicide but police probe showed the body had bruises in the back and some blood was oozing from the mouth and nose.
The body was hanging on a desert tree with sisal tied around her neck.
Police suspect she was killed and her body hanged to stage suicide. The body was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem and other procedures.
Elsewhere in Awasi, Kisumu county, the body of an unknown man was found in a thicket.
Police said it had bruises on the head, neck, hands and waist and was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem.
Police who visited the scene said the man was killed elsewhere and the body was later ferried and dumped at the scene and the motive is yet to be established.
