A 22-year-old man was found dead in his house after he had been engaged in a fight in the Ikobe area, Nyamira county.

Police said Josephat Ombori had been assaulted in the fight in the area on the night of February 10 before he retired to his bed.

He failed to wake up, and when his family went to check on him, they found him dead in bed.

His body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy as police hunt for the assailant who is known in the area.

In Matutu, Nyamira county, a man identified as Charles Mogeti, 64, was found dead in a room.

The man was found hanging from a truss with a rope tied around his neck after he had been killed elsewhere.

Police said the man had visible injuries on the neck and face when the body was found on February 11. The motive of the murder was not immediately established.

The body, which was in a house of a different person, was moved to the mortuary pending an investigation and autopsy, police said.

In Ngungani area, Kitui county, a man identified as David Mutua Mwanzia, 36, was fatally attacked by his relative over claims he stole his chicken.

The deceased was the cousin of the assailant, and the attack happened in full glare of the suspect’s aged mother, who was unable to separate the fight.

The victim was kept in the house with injuries on the head and passed on hours later.

The assailant escaped the scene, and police said they were making efforts to trace him for grilling and other procedures while the body was moved to the mortuary for autopsy.

And a suspect was stoned to death over claims he stole chicken in Muumandu, Konza, Machakos county.

He was also accused of stealing a gas cylinder from a house when an alarm was raised, alerting locals who responded by stoning him to death.

Police said they are investigating the incident and that the body was moved to the mortuary. Three chickens and a six-kilo gas cylinder were found at the scene, police said.

Meanwhile, a forest ranger was hacked and seriously wounded in a scuffle with a suspected poacher in Esageri, Koibatek, Baringo County.

The suspect used a panga to hack the ranger in the head in the scuffle on February 11, 2026, police said. This was after the victim and a colleague stumbled on the assailant while cutting trees in a local forest.

The victim was rushed to the hospital with serious head injuries following the attack while the assailant escaped on foot.

Police said they were pursuing the said assailant who is known in the area.
