A 31-year-old man killed his wife, killing her before he died by suicide in a village in Kilibwoni, Nandi County.
Police and locals said Duncan Kimaru, aged 31, first attacked and killed his wife, Hardlight Jelegat, 24, by slashing her head and slitting her throat.
This followed a domestic fight in their house on Monday, February 9, 2026, night.
Witnesses said he then left the body of the woman in the house and walked to a nearby dam, where he drowned himself.
His body was retrieved from the dam long after the incident.
The two bodies were moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures. Police said they were investigating the incident. Locals said the couple has been having domestic squabbles. The killer weapon was recovered at the scene.
Police said they were investigating murder and suicide. Suicide cases have been on the rise in many parts of the country.
The World Health Organization says such cases are also attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties, and financial difficulties.
Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression, and bipolar disorder.
Elsewhere in Kiirua, Meru County, a woman was found murdered in her house. The body of Linet Karambu, 31, was found lying in a pool of blood long after her murder on February 9, police said. The suspected assailant, who is her husband, was arrested after he walked to the local police station and confessed to the murder.
He later took the police to the house where the body of the woman was found lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut in the neck.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy as the man was detained for grilling and possible arraignment for murder.
In Kegondi, Vihiga County, a 29-year-old woman was found dead on the roadside after a suspected murder.
Police identified her as Quinter Nyahenda and added the body had blood oozing from her nose.
The cause of the death was not immediately established as police moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
In Ruai, Nairobi, one Juma Hassan, 27, was found dead in his house. The cause of his death was not immediately known, police said of the February 9, 2026 incident.
His body was found in his bed in the house that was locked from inside. It took officials' efforts to break into the house to access the body.
