A man died after the wall of a septic tank he was digging and expanding collapsed and trapped him in Kabete, Nairobi.

Police and residents said Wilfred Mwangi, 46, was expanding his septic tank for an apartment when the wall he was digging collapsed.

It then pushed him to the sewer of the tank fatally. He was rescued and rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police were called to the scene and moved the body to the mortuary pending postmortem and other procedures.

Police said several other incidents were reported to them on Monday alone.

Elsewhere in Malinya, Kakamega County, one Aggrey Kashidi, 42, died after being trapped in a gold mine site.

He was among a group that had ventured into the gold mining site in Musire when it collapsed on Monday evening.

The body was retrieved and moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

This is the latest such incident to happen in the area amid calls for the safety of the workers at the gold mine sites.

And in Malindi, Kilifi County, a 16-year-old boy drowned while swimming in the Indian Ocean. The victim was swimming at Buntwani beach when he drowned. His body was retrieved long after the incident and police said he was a grade nine pupil at St Andrews’s Primary School.

A 40-year-old man was found dead on the roadside after his murder in Kamwango village, Kamagambo, Migori County.

Police said the body of Wilson Oluoch had bruises on the neck and burns on the left hand when it was discovered on February 9 long after his murder.

In Ngungani area, Kitui County, a murder suspect was lynched by a mob. The suspect was linked to an earlier murder incident before locals traced him to a hideout and stoned him to death.

In Kibugu, Embu County, one Moses Ndwiga, 33 was found dead after suspected murder. His body had bruises on the neck when it was found on the roadside in Gatareri village. Police said they had not established the motive of the murder and that the body was moved to the mortuary pending investigations.

In Merti, Isiolo County, a herder was shot and killed in an ambush by gunmen in Madokarsa area.

Police said one Kassim Jilo Dida, 27 was shot and killed in the ambush. The gunmen escaped the scene after the February 8 incident. The body was processed and handed over to the family for burial as per Islamic rites amid hunt on the gang.

Cases of cattle rustling that turn fatal have been on the rise in the area amid protests from locals to tame the trend. Officials have since launched an operation to address the menace.
