Kenyan actress Jackie Matubia has called out a woman who allegedly declined to refund KSh 7,000 after the money was mistakenly sent to her account.

How the Money Was Sent to the Wrong Number

The mother of two explained that she transferred the cash through her bank but later realised she had keyed in the wrong number.

The transaction was made at 10:54am the previous day, and it was only afterwards that she discovered the error.

Jackie said she initially believed the bank would be unable to reverse the transaction, but still hoped the recipient would act in good faith.

The money had been intended as a refund to a businesswoman, who later contacted her asking why she had not received it. That is when the actress noticed she had mixed up the final digit of the phone number.

Attempts to Recover the KSh 7,000

Confident she had sent the funds correctly, she was stunned to realise the mistake. She tried reaching the unintended recipient, noting that the name displayed on the transaction details gave her the impression the person would be honest.

According to Jackie, when she called to explain the situation, the woman appeared evasive. She alleged that the recipient hung up and later became unreachable.

After contacting her bank, Jackie was informed that the funds had already been withdrawn or used, making a reversal impossible.

Considering Legal Action

Frustrated by the situation, the actress expressed her disappointment and considered taking legal action.

She said she would have been open to a compromise, even suggesting a partial refund if the woman was unable to return the full amount immediately. However, switching off the phone, she argued, only made matters worse.

The mother of two admitted she felt torn. On one hand, she wanted to report the matter to the police to “teach her a lesson”.

On the other, she struggled with the decision as a Christian, questioning how best to handle the situation. She also pointed out that KSh 7,000 is a significant amount in the current economic climate.

Another Money Controversy: KSh 20,000 Returned

While Jackie was grappling with the loss of KSh 7,000, TV47 investigative journalist Samira Mohammed was dealing with a separate but equally sensitive money issue — this time involving KSh 20,000.

Following an interview with Repentance and Holiness Ministry founder Prophet David Owuor, members of the TV47 crew reportedly received KSh 20,000 each via mobile transfer, described as a “blessing”.

Why the TV47 Crew Sent the Money Back

Speaking on Radio 47, Samira explained that the funds were sent to their phones at around 1am, shortly after they left the interview.

She said the newsroom leadership was informed the next morning and that the payment was documented in the script prepared for the story.

According to the journalist, the team later agreed to reverse the money before the exposé aired. She suggested that keeping it could have raised questions about their independence and credibility.

Samira maintained that returning the KSh 20,000 was a matter of professional integrity. In her view, no amount of money was worth risking public trust, especially in a story that was already under intense scrutiny.
