A series of tragic incidents across the country have left several families mourning after accidents and violent encounters claimed multiple lives.

There was tragedy at a construction site in the Bellevue area of Nairobi after an excavator operator was killed when the machine slipped and crushed him.

Police said Stephen Mwanzia, 39, was loading his excavator onto a trailer on February 6, 2026, when it slipped off and trapped him fatally.

The excavator had completed digging at the site when the incident occurred. Police were informed and visited the scene before the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Elsewhere, in the City Carton area of Buruburu, Nairobi, police are investigating an incident in which a man was found dead in his house. The body of Dafton Gakuru, 49, was discovered long after he had died.

Police said the cause of death is yet to be established. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

In the Likoni area of Mombasa County, a two-and-a-half-year-old boy was killed in a fire incident.

The fire broke out and burned down a house while the child was sleeping.

His mother said she had left him asleep and gone to collect another child from school when the incident happened.

The remains were picked up and taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy, police said.

In Adungosi area, Teso, Busia County, a three-and-a-half-year-old baby boy drowned in a borehole at a home as he and other children played nearby. The children were playing outside a home in Okame village when the incident occurred.

The body was later retrieved and moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy. Police said the borehole was uncovered, exposing the child to danger.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man died after being stabbed in an incident in Mkuru Kayaba, Nairobi.

The deceased was identified as Denzel Agumi. Police said he was stabbed in the chest by a man during an altercation in the area.

The assailant escaped the scene after the attack on the night of February 6, police said. Agumi was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police were informed of the incident and moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Witnesses said the assailant had intervened in an altercation between the deceased and a woman before pulling out a kitchen knife and stabbing him in the chest.

Police said a hunt for the suspect continued on Sunday.
