Police are investigating an incident where a woman aged about 30 was found dead on the roadside in Salama, Makueni County.

Police believe she was killed elsewhere and the body dumped at the scene on February 7 along Salama-Nunguni Road.

The body was naked when it was discovered with head injuries.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an identification and autopsy. No arrest was made over the murder, police said on Sunday amid investigations.

In a different incident, a mob arrested a suspect over the murder of a man in the Dagahaley area, Garissa County.

The suspect is linked to the murder incident that happened on January 20, 2026, in the area, police said.

And a man is fighting for his life in a hospital after he was attacked by a hippopotamus in Lake Shakababo, Tarasa, Tana River County.

The victim was fishing at the lake when the incident happened, police said. He was rescued and rushed to hospital with serious wounds. Locals later demanded action to remove the animals from the lake.

In Usenge, Siaya county, a 21-year-old man drowned while bathing in a dam. The deceased was identified as Ian Onyango.

He was a herdsman in the area and had gone to bath in the dam when he drowned.

His body had not been retrieved by Sunday amid a search that was mounted.

In Oyugis, Homa Bay county, one Dismus Juma, 71, was found dead in a swampy area. The cause of his death was not immediately established, police said as they moved the body to the mortuary for autopsy.

Locals said he had gone fishing in the River Awach but did not return home as anticipated.

The police said they are investigating the incident.

His family said he had a history of epilepsy. They suspect he was attacked while venturing to the area, and because he had no one to attend to him, he died at the scene. But police said they will know more on the issue after an autopsy is conducted on the body.

In the Gambogi area, Vihiga County, a man was found on the roadside after he had drowned in a pool of water.

The incident happened after the man who was believed to have been drunk, fell into a ditch full of water following heavy rains that were experienced in the area, police said as they moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

And police in Holo, Kisumu county are investigating an incident where a fisherman was found dead in his house.

Police believe Dan Otieno was killed in his house. The motive of the murder is yet to be known, police said.

The body of the man was discovered by fellow fishermen who became jittery after he was late in reporting for planned fishing sessions in the area.

The body was found in his net on the floor in his house with no visible injuries and was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy following the February 6 incident.
