Joyce Mayor./HANDOUT

Days are gone, when sway in political opinion would be shaped in boardrooms.

As an aspiring politician from Kiganjo ward, Gatundu South, approximately three Kilometers from Ichaweri, I am immersed in between very high voltage political realities. But the interesting fact is, the voter has completely changed view on whom they will vote.

The electrorate is interested in serious issues, interventions in education for example, as an area that has produced two presidents, one would expect that every child has access to quality education, yet that perception is far from the reality on the ground.

Learners are still struggling to access that quality education, a fact that voters have prioritized before anyone discuss the angle of regional politics.

A few weeks ago, for instance in my random visits in the Kiganjo locality, a different situation different from what social media and media portrays presented itself.

We discussed the progress of my Elimu Bora Mashinani, and it was impressive that public policy, the future of our children can overshadow the reality of regional politics.

It’s in this regard, that I beseech the Young upcoming crop of leaders not to be carried away by the currents of regional politics, but respond to the needs of the people.

It’s why for instance, I’m running, but also running under the government party, because the gap of inequality in my locality is sad.

I have spent my entire time since the last election studying the political ecosystem, realised that it takes more than being an MCA to champion meaningful interventions, the success of a politician relies on the interchange between their constitutional role and the deep political networks they have created. And case in point I have seen this through the interventions we are doing for the sake of helping our people in Kiganjo.

This has taught me the valuable fact, that pragmatic politics births results, different from relying on empty rhetoric.

Indeed the last mile of development is yet to reach the last person in the last village In my opinion, going foward, Kiambu politics, Gatundu South and Kiganjo will clear up any confusion that has exploited our people’s chances of getting quality, qualified leaders. This time, each candidate’s track record must speak loud.

There must be a difference between sloganeering and transformative politics. I pledge in my part to do life changing politics. While at it, I see the youth, women and the special interest groups as partners in this journey.

We must dare to dream, as young women leaders.
