
Police are investigating an incident where a four-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool while on a swimming session at a hotel in Juja, Kiambu county.
The boy was a PP1 pupil when the incident happened on Friday afternoon.
He was among a group of pupils who had gone to a local hotel for swimming sessions when he drowned.
It emerged that he ventured into an adult swimming pool where he drowned.
His body was discovered in the deep end of the adult swimming pool amid investigations into how he ventured therein.
The locals blocked police from removing the body as they demanded explanations from the hotel management on how the incident happened.
It took the police to use force and teargas canisters to disperse the crowd to be able to remove the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
Police said they are investigating the incident.
In a different incident, four brothers aged between nine and 14 drowned in an open quarry in the Kanyakwar area of Kisumu County. The tragic incident happened Sunday February 8 afternoon, police said.
The incident left the village devastated, police said on Monday. Witnesses said the incident happened while the children were swimming in the water-filled quarry.
One of the boys reportedly moved into a deeper section of the quarry and began to drown, prompting a stampede.
His three brothers attempted to rescue him but were also overwhelmed by the water.
Residents raised the alarm, prompting a response from local authorities.
All four bodies were later retrieved from the quarry and moved to the mortuary pending other procedures.
The locals demanded refilling of the open and abandoned quarry.
Meanwhile, a 40-year-old woman was found murdered at Tokyo village in Thumaita, Ndia, Kirinyaga County.
Jane Wambui's body was discovered naked and dumped in a farm, about five hundred meters from the family homestead. Police said a pair of shoes was left along the road, indicating the perpetrator's attempt to conceal the crime.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy. Elsewhere in Sega, Siaya County, a decomposed body of a man was found in a bush. The victim was later identified as Dennis Mbwari, 40.
The police said the deceased had gone missing on February
2, 2026, while the body was discovered six days later. The police said they were
investigating murder as they moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
