Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has travelled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening Kenya’s bilateral and strategic partnerships.
According to a press statement from his office, Mudavadi is scheduled to hold high-level bilateral talks with Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gideon Timothewos.
The discussions will focus on deepening cooperation between the two neighbouring countries, which share long-standing ties rooted in good neighbourliness, historical links and a strategic partnership anchored by the 2012 Special Status Agreement.
Kenya and Ethiopia have continued to enhance collaboration in key sectors.
These include infrastructure, energy and trade. Ongoing initiatives such as the Lamu–Addis Ababa corridor and recent agreements to boost cross-border trade underscore the growing economic integration between the two countries.
The visit is expected to build on these efforts and reinforce regional cooperation within East Africa.
During the same visit, the Prime Cabinet Secretary will also meet the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Yvette Cooper.
The meeting will review progress made in advancing the Kenya–UK Strategic Partnership and explore further areas of collaboration.
The United Kingdom remains one of Kenya’s main foreign investors.
Current areas of focus include the development of the Nairobi Railway City project, described as a “City within a City,” as well as defence cooperation and digital technology. These sectors continue to play a central role in strengthening economic and diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The visit reflects Kenya’s continued engagement with key regional and global partners to advance shared interests in development, security and trade.
It also highlights the government’s focus on diplomacy as a tool for economic growth and regional stability.
Mudavadi’s engagements in Addis Ababa come at a time when Kenya is seeking to consolidate strategic partnerships and expand opportunities for investment, trade and cooperation across Africa and beyond.
