Kenya’s acclaimed youth drama MTV Shuga Mashariki is back for its highly anticipated second season, set to premiere on Citizen TV from Tuesday, 10 February at 11 PM.

Fans around the world can also catch new episodes on the MTV Shuga YouTube channel starting Wednesday, 11 February, marking the series’ continued expansion to a global audience.

The return was celebrated in style at an exclusive premiere event on 28 January at CCHUB in Nairobi, hosted by the MTV Staying Alive Foundation (MTV SAF).

The event brought together the series’ cast and crew, media, and partners, offering an immersive introduction to the new season, complete with first listens of the show’s original soundtrack, ‘25Flow’, and interactive panels exploring the creative journey behind the production.

Season 2 sees the return of fan-favourite actors including Serah Wanjiru, Basil Mungai, Matthew Ngugi, Wilson Muchemi, Fatuma Gichuru, Juliebrenda Nyambura, Fridah Mumbe, Renee Gichuki, Mwende King’ori, and the much-anticipated comeback of Brian Kabugi.

The new season also introduces fresh faces such as Vanessa Okeyo Aika, Marima Wanjiru, Natalia Kyalo, Jenny Muigai, Amalie Chopetta, Beatrice Kamuyu, Eunice Kamau, and Tanzania’s Talie Gray, adding new depth and energy to the show’s narrative.

For the first time in the franchise, Season 2 comes with an original soundtrack, ‘25Flow’, created alongside the series.

Produced by SoFresh, the project features Kenyan artists and songwriters, blending their music directly into the storylines and enhancing the show’s immersive experience.

Set against the backdrop of Enkare University, the new season explores the complexities of youth navigating love, consent, identity, ambition, and digital culture.

Storylines tackle pressing issues such as viral fame, body autonomy, toxic masculinity, sexual violence, and the ways technology and societal expectations influence personal choices. Interwoven narratives reveal secrets, test friendships, and amplify justice as a central theme.

The season also marks a significant creative milestone, with Dina Mwende stepping in as Series Producer.Mwende, founder of the women-led production company She Moves Africa Films, worked alongside a team of accomplished directors including Janet Chumbe, June Ndinya, Mkaiwawi Mwakaba, and Likarion Wainaina, with cinematography led by returning acclaimed director Enos Olik.

Their combined expertise ensures authentic storytelling that resonates with Kenyan youth culture.
