
A 19-year-old man died after being electrocuted while washing clothes in a house in Kogony, Kisumu County.
Police and Kenya Power officials reported that Brian Omollo came into contact with a live wire and was killed instantly.
Authorities suspect the electricity may have been illegally connected, though investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances.
Omollo’s body was taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy. Officials note that such incidents are common in informal settlements and often linked to illegal power connections.
Efforts are underway to address these unsafe connections.
Two people drowned in separate incidents.
In Mbumbuni, Makueni County, 21-year-old Mumo Mbithi drowned in Kwa Mathee Earth Dam. His clothes were later found on the dam’s banks. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, and the body has been taken to the mortuary.
In Miwani, Kisumu County, 20-year-old Naman Opole was found dead in a swampy area near an irrigation scheme. Relatives said he was fishing when he suffered a seizure, as he had a known history of epilepsy.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
Police in Athi River, Machakos County, reported that a driver and his loader were robbed of 500 bags of rice, each weighing 25 kilograms, while transporting them from Mombasa to Nairobi.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on January 28 near the Daystar area. The men, reportedly dressed in police jungle uniforms, flagged down the lorry, tied the crew’s hands and legs, and forced them to lie down.
Another group offloaded the rice onto a waiting vehicle. Both vehicles were then driven away.
The victims managed to free themselves and reported the matter to police.
Authorities are investigating the incident, which is part of a series of robberies targeting trucks along the route.
Police have warned drivers to remain vigilant, particularly on routes where criminals impersonate officers to carry out thefts.
