Counties that had the most femicide cases in 2024/ROSA MUMANYI
In 2024, the National Police Service reported a troubling rise in femicide cases in Kenya, with the total increasing from 535 in 2023 to 578 in 2024.
This is according to a report by the Technical Working Group on Gender-Based Violence.
The report shows that Nairobi recorded the highest number of cases at 54, followed by Nakuru with 43 and Meru with 30.
Other significantly affected regions include Kiambu, Kisumu, Kilifi, and Kericho.
Trans Nzoia, Machakos, and Nandi also appeared in the top ten list, each recording at least 20 cases, highlighting the widespread nature of this critical safety issue across the country.
