Born in Kenya, Wanjala began his football journey in the country before moving to Spain to pursue a professional career. Prior to joining Valencia, he played youth and academy football, including time at the Nàstic Sports Academy in Tarragona.
As Kenya U-20 captain, Wanjala led his side during the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations and gained broader exposure on the continental stage. He also joined the Harambee Stars’ senior setup, earning call-ups to the national team squad for competitive fixtures.

Wanjala’s first comments after the transfer reflected his focus on development and adaptation with Valencia. In an interview with club media, he said he was “very happy” to join a club with a “great history” and intended to make the most of the
opportunity to grow and eventually compete for a spot in the senior La Liga squad.
His move continues a trend of young Kenyan players signing with European clubs, following in the footsteps of their compatriots who have played abroad.
