Emerging technological concerns also feature prominently, including adverse outcomes of frontier technologies (61%) and AI technologies (48%).

Environmental and systemic threats, such as extreme weather events (54%), critical changes to Earth systems (51%), and pollution (47%), are central to the R&D agenda for 2026–2036.

By investing in early warning systems and new technologies, R&D strengthens responses to these diverse global challenges.
