Background

The arrests come amid growing concern over the rise of reckless content creation on social media platforms, where some creators engage in offensive or illegal acts to gain views, likes, and followers.

In recent months, Kenyans have increasingly called on authorities to rein in creators who cross the line between entertainment and criminal behavior.

Women’s rights groups and online activists strongly condemned the harassment videos, describing them as degrading and dangerous, particularly for young girls who were allegedly targeted without consent.

The risky highway stunts further intensified public anger, with many Kenyans warning that such behavior could easily lead to fatal accidents. Critics argued that the pursuit of viral fame should not come at thecost of public safety.

The incident has reignited debate over accountability on social media, with renewed calls for platforms like TikTok to strengthen moderation and for law enforcement agencies to take firm action against creators who exploit the public for content.

Authorities have urged victims and witnesses to report similar incidents, emphasizing that content creation does not exempt anyone from the law.
