In a statement issued by the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO), the union expressed “deep disappointment and frustration” with the Nairobi City County Government, alleging repeated meetings and signed agreements over the past two years that have yet to be implemented.

A health worker displays a placard as they protest outside City Hall on January 16, 2025/LEAH MUKANGAIA major concern highlighted was the delayed December salaries, which the unions claimed had not been paid “while other counties endeavour to pay salaries in time.”
They alleged no county official had provided an explanation, describing it as a sign of disregard for health workers.

failure to honor their demands on January 16, 2025/LEAH MUKANGAIThe caucus also raised stalled promotions and redesignations, incomplete implementation of Public Service Commission schemes of service, delayed confirmations to permanent and pensionable terms, non-payment of gratuity to former NMS staff, unstable medical insurance, and delayed statutory remittances.
The unions said the county had not replaced staff who had resigned, retired, or died, resulting in acute shortages and burnout across health facilities.

The workers are calling for implementation of signed collective bargaining agreements, payment of pending dues, and prompt action on staffing and welfare concerns.
