During a recent interview with Dr. Ofweneke, Nairobi-based content creator Vindee shared experiences that have shaped his approach to advocacy and personal resilience.
Vindee described having a "tough life," explaining that his background influences his willingness to stand up for both himself and others.
He recounted an incident in which he observed Kenyans being held outside a venue on a Sabbath while foreign nationals were allowed entry.
Despite being in line himself, Vindee said he chose to intervene after noticing what he described as preferential treatment.
He explained that his motivation was to defend those being sidelined, regardless of who was involved, and stated that he was not afraid of police intervention, believing his actions were justified.
Months of Internet Disruptions
The discussion moved to a technical issue involving Vindee's internet service, which he said had disrupted his work for three months.
He reported experiencing severe connectivity delays, with one-minute videos taking up to eight minutes to upload.
To continue producing content for his audience, Vindee purchased mobile data bundles and worked from his rooftop, despite maintaining an active wifi subscription.
"WiFi ina lag na mimi ni content creator inafaa nipostie mafans wangu," he stated.

Conflict Over Hardware
The dispute centered on a router that the internet service provider had removed and replaced with a model Vindee claimed was faulty.
According to Vindee, the company refused to return his original router or issue a refund. Technicians eventually visited his home with testing equipment.
"Walichukua ruta yangu kuna ruta fulani hii ya tenda. Walichukua ruta yangu wakaniachia ruta yao fulani hapo yenye inalag," he stated.

Vindee said he prepared a meal for them, which they ate at his table. When it became evident that the technicians would not return the original router or provide a refund, Vindee padlocked the door from the inside. "Nikachukua kifuli yangu nikafunga mlango... ndani na mi pia niko ndani," he said.
He remained in the house with the technicians, who, according to him, appeared relaxed and joked while waiting for the police.

Arrest and Release
The owner of the wifi company reportedly contacted Vindee and threatened police action. Officers arrived at his home, and Vindee recorded them as they kicked at his door. Following the intervention of a neighbor, he opened the door and was arrested on charges of "detaining people."
Vindee said he was handcuffed and taken to the police station, where his phone was initially confiscated. He was released after a police officer, who was a fan of his work, recognized him and assisted him in making a phone call.
Vindee described the incident as a result of a customer seeking fair service for which he had paid. He emphasized that his actions were motivated by a desire to address what he perceived as unfair treatment and to maintain his ability to continue his work.
