The Citizen TV studio was charged with energy on Wednesday night as host Jeff Koinange sat down with two of the country's most prominent young politicians.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro discussed the state of the nation. During the wide-ranging interview, Owino revealed a staggering level of public engagement via his digital platforms.

The Power of Millions

Owino claimed his inbox has been flooded by millions of Kenyans in recent days. According to the MP, the messages provide a clear indication of what the public expects from his future career.

A further 8.9 million messages suggested he should aim for the Nairobi Governor’s seat. Perhaps most fascinating was the suggestion of a political partnership between the two guests.

Owino stated that 5 million messages proposed that he and Ndindi Nyoro should form a joint ticket for the country's leadership.

"I received around 9 million messages in my inbox, telling me to go for president. Then 8.9 telling me to go for governor,” Owino revealed.

“Another 5 million telling me that I tell Ndindi Nyoro to be my deputy,” he added while laughing.

Nairobi: A ‘Graveyard of Garbage’

Despite the presidential talk, Owino’s immediate sights appear firmly set on the capital. He described Nairobi as a city in a state of deep crisis. He used strong language to criticise the current administration of the city and county.

He called the county a graveyard of garbage and a cemetery of corruption. He declared that he intends to be the next Governor of Nairobi to correct these wrongs. Owino noted that he and Nyoro represent a new generation of leadership defined by intellect and passion.

Protecting National Assets

The debate also focused on the economy and the proposed sale of state assets. Owino voiced strong opposition to the government’s plan to sell a 15% stake in Safaricom. He warned that selling such a vital company to foreign entities leads to foreign absorption.

He argued that Safaricom earns nearly 300 billion shillings annually. If sold to foreigners, he claimed half of that wealth would leave Kenya, destabilising the exchange rate. He insisted that certain fundamental companies must remain in public hands.

"Safaricom is the greatest... that should not be for sale. It’s a national asset."
