Daniel Ebenyo at the World Cross Country Championship/ HANDOUT
The 2023 World 10,000m silver medallist Daniel Ebenyo insists his best is still to come after adding another prized global medal to his growing collection with bronze in the senior men’s 10km race at the World Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Florida.
Last weekend in Florida, Ebenyo dug deep in a bruising contest, powering to a 28:45 finish to secure bronze and clinch his third global medal on the world stage.
Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo successfully defended the title he won in Belgrade, Serbia, in 2024 after storming across the line in 28:18.
Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi settled for silver in 28:36. Ebenyo’s bronze from Florida further adds to a trophy cabinet that already boasts a rich haul of medals from major World Championships.

In 2023, the Kenyan distance ace claimed silver over 25 laps at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, clocking 27:52.60 to finish behind Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei, who won in 27:51.42.
That same year, Ebenyo added another silver at the World Road Running Championships in Riga, Latvia, timing 59:14 in the Half Marathon to place second behind compatriot Sebastian Sawe, who triumphed in 59:10.
Buoyed by his World Cross Country exploits, Ebenyo is now targeting the World Road Running Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, in September, where he will compete in the half-marathon.
"My next target is the World Half Marathon in Copenhagen, of which I will prepare myself well and see if I will be selected for the team," Ebenyo said after arriving at the JKIA.
With silver from the Road Running Championship already in the bag, Ebenyo reckons he can upgrade it to gold in Copenhagen.
"During the last edition in Latvia, I took silver, so maybe this time round I am looking forward to a gold medal," he added.
Ebenyo’s confidence is further underpinned by a solid 2025 campaign across cross-country, road and track. He kicked off the season in emphatic fashion by winning the National Cross Country Championships on February 8, 2025, claiming the title in 30:48.
That momentum carried into the Sirikwa Classic Cross Country Tour on February 22, where he delivered another commanding performance to win, stopping the clock at 29:57.
Ebenyo then tested himself over the full marathon distance in Seoul, lining up for the 42km race on March 16 and finishing 10th in 2:10:21. He roared back to form on the roads at the Boilermaker 10K on May 26, clocking 28:23 to finish second.
The 30-year-old later switched gears to the track, featuring at the Kenya National Championships, where he placed fourth in the 10,000m, timing 28:30.89 on June 27.
He made his second marathon appearance of the year, lining up in Chicago on October 12 and recording a13th-place finish in 2:07:52.
