Comedian Stellah Jemutai Koitie, popularly known as Jemutai Comedian with Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi/HANDOUTKapsaret MP Oscar Sudi has stepped in to support comedian Stellah Jemutai Koitie, popularly known as Jemutai Comedian, after the entertainer made an emotional appeal for financial assistance.
Jemutai appealed for support from well-wishers following a poorly attended event.
Sudi said he was moved by Jemutai's appeal on social media and decided to meet the comedian to offer his support as she works to recover from the financial difficulties arising from the event.
“Following her emotional appeal on social media, I was moved by Stellah Jemutai Koitie, alias Jemutai Comedian - Chibambe, who had even deactivated her social media accounts,” Sudi said.
“Today, I made a point of meeting her to offer my support in my own small way, to help her get back on her feet and to explore how we can take creative arts and stand-up comedy to the next level.”
The Kapsaret MP said he also wanted to explore ways of supporting creatives beyond the immediate assistance, arguing that artists should have platforms that enable them to earn a decent living.
“As a patron, we are determined to create a platform for our creatives so they can earn a decent living and build a foundation for the next generation,” Sudi said.
Sudi's intervention comes nearly two weeks after Jemutai appealed to Kenyans for financial support following an empowerment event she organised to mark 11 years in comedy.

Jemutai said she had expected support from some political leaders who had promised to attend or contribute to the event, but that their absence left her disappointed.
“Sadly, the support I hoped for from some of our leaders did not come through. Many promised to stand with me, but today, their absence was deeply felt,” she said.
“It is painful, especially when we see our leaders show up for other artists.”
She appealed to well-wishers to come to her aid so she could settle the outstanding bills incurred in organising the event.
“We still have commitments to honour the service providers and creatives who worked tirelessly to make this celebration possible. Please stand with me and support me in whatever way you can,” Jemutai said.
The comedian's appeal generated reactions from fans and fellow Kenyans, particularly after she subsequently deactivated her social media accounts.
Her disappearance from the platforms sparked concern among her followers, with some expressing support and calling for assistance for the comedian.
