
More than 40 lives were lost in major road accidents across Kenya between December and January 6, 2026.
The deadliest incident occurred on December 14 along at Chabera along Kisii–Kisumu Highway, where a collision involving two trucks and a van killed 12 people.
Other fatal crashes took place in Taita-Taveta, Kericho, and Eldoret, claiming 23 more victims.
On New Year's Eve, four people died in a collision on the Meru–Nanyuki Highway.
The NTSA identified dangerous overtaking and loss of vehicle control as recurring risk factors in these tragedies.
According to NTSA data, pedestrians remain the most vulnerable group, followed by motorcyclists and passengers.
