Kenyan content creator Sheryl Gabriella has opened up about her ongoing health struggle, revealing that she has been battling recurring ovarian cysts and is seeking help after years of treatment with no lasting solution.
In an emotional Instagram video, Sherly shared her frustration and pain, saying the condition has continued to return despite multiple hospital visits. “I need help. Tell me the permanent solutions for ovarian cyst. I have been to different hospitals and they keep treating it and it keeps coming back,” she said.
She added that while some medical facilities have reassured her that the cysts would eventually disappear, that has not been the case. “Some hospitals tell me it will disappear but it keeps coming back. The pain is unbearable,” she explained, visibly distressed.

Ovarian cysts are a common but often misunderstood health condition that affects many women at different stages of their lives. While some cysts cause no symptoms and disappear on their own, others can be painful, recurring and emotionally draining, especially when answers and long-term solutions feel out of reach.
An ovarian cyst is a fluid-filled sac that develops on or inside an ovary. Most women will develop at least one ovarian cyst in their lifetime, often without even knowing it. In many cases, these cysts are linked to the menstrual cycle and are considered functional, meaning they form during ovulation and usually resolve without treatment.
However, not all ovarian cysts are harmless. Some grow larger, persist over time or rupture, leading to symptoms such as sharp pelvic pain, bloating, heavy periods, pain during intercourse or discomfort in the lower abdomen. In more severe cases, cysts can interfere with daily life and require medical attention.
Doctors classify ovarian cysts into different types. Functional cysts are the most common, while others, such as dermoid cysts, endometriomas and cystadenomas, may be more complex and less likely to resolve on their own. Conditions like endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are also associated with recurrent ovarian cysts.
Diagnosis typically involves a pelvic examination and imaging tests such as ultrasound scans. Treatment depends on several factors, including the size and type of the cyst, age, symptoms and whether the cyst keeps recurring. Some cysts are monitored over time, while others may require medication or surgical intervention.

One of the biggest challenges for women living with ovarian cysts is uncertainty. Pain may come and go, medical opinions may vary and symptoms are sometimes dismissed or minimised. This can take a toll not only physically, but emotionally and mentally as well.
Medical experts stress the importance of regular check-ups, listening to one’s body and seeking a second opinion when symptoms persist or worsen. Severe pain, sudden abdominal discomfort, fever or dizziness should be treated as urgent warning signs that require immediate medical attention.

While ovarian cysts are common, they should never be ignored, especially when pain is persistent or disruptive. Increased awareness, open conversations and access to accurate information play a crucial role in helping women advocate for their health and make informed decisions about their care.
