Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has issued a brief, indirect response following serious allegations linking him to an alleged violent confrontation involving Embakasi East MP Babu Owino at a Nairobi restaurant.
The claims, first reported by the Daily Nation on Sunday, January 4, quickly ignited intense public debate, drawing reactions across political and social media circles.
The report alleged that an altercation between the two politicians occurred at an upscale restaurant along Lenana Road in Kilimani.
What Happened at the Kilimani Restaurant
According to the publication, Babu Owino was attending a private lunch meeting when Alai reportedly entered the establishment and approached his table.
The situation is said to have escalated into a heated exchange, with accusations centred on alleged online attacks directed at Alai’s wife by controversial activist Maverick Aoko — claims Babu has denied.

Babu Owino’s Account of the Incident
In a detailed statement released later that day, the Embakasi East lawmaker described the encounter as a threat to his personal safety.
Babu stated that he had been invited to the restaurant by a senior clergyman and had attended the meeting without his usual security detail, having released his bodyguard for the Christmas holidays.
He explained that after concluding the meeting, he noticed Alai seated at a nearby table and chose to greet him. However, Babu alleged that the interaction quickly turned hostile.

Claims of Violence and Escalation
According to his account, Alai accused him of coordinating online attacks against his wife — an allegation Babu said he firmly rejected, stating that he had no knowledge of or involvement in such actions.
The MP further claimed that the MCA became aggressive during the confrontation. In his statement, Babu alleged that Alai physically pushed him and brandished a firearm, which he claimed was used to strike him during the altercation.
He also alleged that the MCA later poured water on him before the incident came to an end. These claims have not been independently verified.

Robert Alai’s Indirect Response
As of publication, Robert Alai has not issued a formal statement directly addressing the allegations.
However, he appeared to respond indirectly through a series of brief social media posts that did not reference the incident.
In one post, Alai shared a general Sunday greeting, writing: “Good morning, good people. Happy Sunday!” He later added another message stating that he had attended church and prayed for everyone, saying: “Nimetoka church. Nimewaombea wote.”
No Official Police Statement Yet
The incident comes against the backdrop of longstanding political tensions and frequent online confrontations between the two outspoken politicians, both of whom are known for their strong social media presence and polarising public personas.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation from law enforcement regarding investigations, arrests, or charges related to the alleged incident.
Authorities have also not released a public statement clarifying whether the matter is under active inquiry.
