Kenyan singer and entrepreneur Esther Akoth, famously known as Akothee, has shared the details behind her split from Dennis Schweizer.
The Swiss national, whom she nicknamed "Omosh," married the star in a lavish ceremony in April 2023. However, the high-profile relationship ended just a few months after the vows were exchanged.

A Grand Celebration in Nairobi
The wedding was a major event in the Kenyan social calendar. On 10 April 2023, the couple held a glitzy white wedding in Nairobi.
Fans and media followed the celebrations closely as the 43-year-old mother of five appeared to have found her "happily ever after".
The joy was short-lived. Akothee confirmed that she separated from Schweizer in June 2023. This meant the marriage effectively lasted only about two months.

On social media, she has now described the situation as a "big wedding, small marriage".
“Akoth, I have suffered. Kama hii haikunivunja basi hamna lolote duniani laweza nitisha. For those who didn't know, I fell into this trap. I thought he was genuine, but probably he was,” she reflected.

The Discovery of Hidden Truths
The primary reason for the breakdown was a lack of transparency. Akothee revealed that Schweizer had concealed significant personal issues before the wedding.
She explained that she later discovered he was battling mental health challenges, specifically bipolar disorder.
The singer stated that the secrecy was more damaging than the condition itself. She felt betrayed that these "inner truths" were kept from her until after the public ceremony.
Akothee noted that she could not build a life on a foundation of lies and lost trust.
“It’s just that he never disclosed to me that He was bipolar, so I left because I couldn't keep up with the outbursts. I was losing myself and had to pick myself up every time he lost it.”
Lessons for Women in Their 40s
Following the split, Akothee has been vocal about the expectations of mature relationships. She warned men against taking relationships lightly, particularly when courting women over the age of 40.
The entrepreneur emphasised that at her stage of life, there is no room for "jokes" or indecision.
She compared the end of the marriage to chewing gum that has lost its flavour. For Akothee, the decision to leave was a matter of self-preservation and maintaining her own well-being.

She admitted to "losing herself" during the relationship's outbursts and decided she had to "pick herself up."
The singer remains firm in her decision. She noted that while the public embarrassment was difficult, she could not continue with the "ndoa" (marriage) after discovering the truth for herself.
She concluded that she would rather be "outside" with society than remain in a dishonest union.
“I pray that none of my children ever fall in such a situation, it's suicidal if you are not Strin. Imagine the whole world watching such a beautiful wedding, only for it to last 3 weeks,” she concluded.
