Residents of Mjambere Ward in Kisauni Constituency, Mombasa, woke up to refreshing news from the county government on Christmas Day.

Soon, residents will no longer need to travel about eight kilometres to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital (CGTRH) to access medical services.

The Mjambere Level 3 Hospital, which is 85 per cent complete, will be fast-tracked and is expected to open in late January 2026.

“This is a Christmas gift to our loving people of Mjambere,” the county government said in a post on its social media platforms.

Currently, the nearest health facility for Mjambere residents is Mlaleo Health Centre, a Level 3 facility located in neighbouring Nyali Constituency.

“For a long time, we have been forced to travel long distances to seek medical care. In emergencies, especially at night, it was hell for us,” said resident Mwakuchimba.

Visibly emotional, Mwakuchimba, who lost a baby in 2018 due to delayed medical attention, said the facility would have made a difference.

“I wish this hospital was here in 2018,” he said.

Governor Abdulswamad Nassir said the new facility will help ease pressure on CGTRH and will be equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment.

Mjambere MCA Amriya Boy said the hospital is a result of collaboration between local leaders and the county government. She noted that most medical emergencies will now be handled at the Mjambere Level 3 Hospital, with only chronic cases referred to CGTRH.

“Mjambere is lucky to have a governor who truly cares about the people,” she said.

Governor Nassir also urged residents to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA), noting that Mombasa County is leading in registrations.

“SHA benefits everyone, and I thank Mombasa residents for heeding the call,” he said.
