After her powerful and long-awaited musical return with Majaliwa, singer and songwriter Maureen Kunga is not just stepping back into the scene — she is reclaiming her place as one of Kenya’s most expressive vocalists.
Her new single, “NALIA”, arrives as a deep emotional excavation, turning vulnerability into art and heartbreak into something beautifully universal.
Where Majaliwa reintroduced Maureen’s voice with spiritual softness and emotional maturity,“NALIA” goes further — deeper, braver, and completely unfiltered. It is heartbreak laid bare, the sound of a woman who loved bravely, broke quietly, and finally allowed herself to feel the weight of everything she once tried to swallow.
With her trademark vocal strength but a new level of rawness, Maureen delivers a ballad that is at once personal and profoundly relatable
“I hope people hear themselves in this song.” — Maureen Kunga

Speaking about the message behind the single, Maureen explains that NALIA is intentionally intimate — crafted as a mirror for anyone who has ever loved deeply and lost painfully.
“NALIA is for anyone who has ever cried quietly, loved loudly, and broken silently. I want it to feel like a mirror — a place where their own emotions finally make sense,” she says.
For her, the song goes beyond pain. It is also about reclaiming one’s voice after emotional collapse.
“Even though it’s emotional and painful, NALIA is also about reclaiming your voice. I want listeners to feel proud of surviving what almost broke them.”
A Song Born from Silent Grief
At the core of NALIA lies Maureen’s very real experience of grieving a person who was still very much alive.
“I wrote NALIA during a season where I felt like I was grieving someone who was still alive. It tells the story of realizing that love can break you even when you’re trying your hardest to hold it together,” she shares.

For Maureen, this single marks an emotional reset — the beginning of healing after choosing herself again.
“NALIA is heartbreak, yes — but it’s also release. It’s the beginning of healing. This chapter is different because I’m creating from a place of freedom. No filters, no boxes, no rules. Just a woman and her truth.”
The Stadium Visual: Loneliness Made Cinematic
The music video, shot in a massive empty stadium, is a bold artistic choice that visually magnifies the loneliness of heartbreak.
“We chose a stadium because I wanted the visuals to match the scale of the emotion in NALIA,” Maureen says.
The emptiness of the arena reflects the emotional isolation that comes with heartbreak — feeling both utterly alone yet exposed to the world.
“It was about making the pain feel epic, cinematic, and unforgettable. Seeing just one or two people in that massive space shows how small we all are in the grand scheme of things — and how alone heartbreak truly makes us feel.”

Fans Open Up: Instagram Flooded with Heartbreak Confessions
Soon after releasing NALIA, Maureen took to Instagram to connect more deeply with her audience, asking fans to share their heartbreak stories through her Insta-stories.
And they did — generously.
From tales of quiet breakups to stories of unrequited love and emotional survival, fans poured out confessions that echoed the very essence of the song. Many expressed how NALIA helped them name emotions they had buried for years, while others thanked Maureen for creating a safe space to be vulnerable.
This wave of fan engagement not only affirmed the emotional power of the track but also showcased how deeply Maureen’s storytelling resonates across generations.
A New Chapter for Maureen Kunga
With NALIA, Maureen steps into a new artistic identity — one unafraid of emotion, imperfection, or honesty.
She is not just back.
She is renewed.
She is louder in her truth.
And if the confessions pouring in from fans are anything to go by, Kenyans are not just listening — they’re feeling with her.
