Lillian Ng’ang’a has expressed concern about the growing number of young women turning to cosmetic procedures, encouraging them instead to prioritise healthy eating and regular exercise.
In a message shared on her Instagram Stories, Ng’ang’a reflected on how body image pressures have shifted over time.
“In our 20’s, we were skinny, young girls just enjoying life,” she wrote, before questioning, “Idk. What changed?”
She added that many young women today appear to grapple with self-acceptance. “Now we have 20 YO’s who hate their bodies so much to the point of endangering their lives,” she posted.
While acknowledging that personal choices vary — “and yes to each their own” — she emphasised that “nothing tops healthy eating and exercise,” noting that it remains accessible even for those with financial means.

Ng’ang’a’s comments come amid increased public discussion about cosmetic procedures in Kenya and rising visibility of influencers who have openly shared their experiences.
Recent Cosmetic Procedure Disclosures
Several Kenyan digital creators have recently discussed their experiences with body-enhancing procedures, contributing to a growing public conversation about beauty standards and body modification.
In November 2025, content creator Lydia Wanjiru revealed that she had undergone multiple procedures, including a tummy tuck, Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) and liposuction.
Her disclosure drew widespread attention as she detailed the physical and emotional aspects of the recovery process.

Similarly, comedian and content creator Naomi Kuria shared her own transformation earlier this year, noting that she had refined her waistline through a cosmetic procedure that complemented an existing weight-loss journey.
Her openness added to the broader visibility of such procedures among Kenyan influencers.
Other personalities, including lifestyle and beauty creators like vera sidika and pritty vishy have also discussed undergoing cosmetic enhancements ranging from liposuction to body contouring.

Their stories — often accompanied by before-and-after visuals and procedural breakdowns — have helped normalise the conversation around body modification, especially among young audiences.
Understanding Cosmetic Surgery
Cosmetic surgery refers to elective medical procedures carried out to enhance, reshape, or modify a person’s physical appearance.
Unlike reconstructive surgery—which is performed to correct abnormalities caused by injury, illness, or birth conditions—cosmetic surgery is driven primarily by aesthetic preference, self-image, and personal confidence.
In Kenya, interest in cosmetic procedures has been rising alongside global trends, social media exposure, body-image culture, and increased access to clinics both locally and abroad.
Many procedures are now marketed as minimally invasive, faster to heal from, and more affordable than in previous years, contributing to their growing appeal among influencers and the general public.
Body Enhancement Procedures
Body-focused cosmetic surgery remains among the most sought-after. Common examples include:
Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) – a procedure where fat is removed from certain parts of the body and transferred to the buttocks to enhance shape and volume.

Liposuction – the surgical removal of excess fat deposits to contour areas such as the waist, arms, stomach, or thighs.
