Why Victims Suffer in Silence

Hours after the confrontation video went viral, the surge of correspondence highlighted the severe scale of silent suffering in Kenya. Mr Sonko noted that many GBV victims are suffering silently — afraid, ashamed, and uncertain of where to turn.

He reflected on the issue, questioning why "countless young women and men in Kenya... suffer silently, with no one to defend them".

Some of the people who reached out to him have "even lost loved ones to this monster called GBV".

One particular message deeply affected the philanthropist. It was the story of a young girl who had endured unimaginable abuse. Mr Sonko noted her pain, her fear, herloneliness, and promised to follow up on her case.

A Vow to Fight GBV

The former governor stated he will not remain silent on the issue. He stressed that he will continue to speak, fight, and advocate until GBV is defeated.

Mr Sonko encouraged women in similar abusive relationships to open up and seek help.

He previously noted that certain hospitals in the city, including low-income facilities, offer services for women experiencing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).

Mr Sonko urged young couples to handle disagreements in a civilised manner. He advised them to choose peace and dialogue before anger, rather than hurting the person they vowed to protect.

"I will continue to speak, fight, and advocate because no one... deserves to suffer in silence until this monster called GBV is defeated."
