Content creator Shannz Matiru has raised concern over an unusual form of theft reportedly targeting women walking around Nairobi’s Central Business District.
According to Shannz, thieves have seemingly added wigs to the list of items they can snatch from unsuspecting Nairobians, leaving women with another reason to stay alert while navigating the busy city centre.

Taking to social media, Shanzz reacted to the alleged rise in wig-snatching incidents while joking about the possible consequences for women who already have high hairlines.
“Juu wameamua sasa town ni kung'oa watu wig, sisi watu tuko na big forehead si mtakua mmetung'oa our whole hairline tubaki na fivehead hata si forehead anymore,” Shanzz said.
Her hilarious take quickly turned the conversation into a discussion about how embarrassing such an incident could be, especially for someone whose wig is firmly attached and gets pulled off in the middle of a busy street.
For women who rely on wigs as part of their everyday look, the thought of walking through CBD and having someone suddenly grab their hairpiece is understandably unsettling.

Shanzz also raised an interesting question about the possible motive behind the alleged thefts.
“Is it people that are selling wigs ndio wanatuma hao wezi ama?” she wondered.
