The Machakos County Government has formally responded to allegations made on The Obinna Show Live, demanding that comedian Oga Obinna produce evidence proving claims that the county owes fellow comedian Sammy Kioko unpaid money for supplies and services.
The response follows a viral episode aired on November 10, 2025, where Kioko emotionally claimed on Obinna’s YouTube show — “When Politics Crushes Dreams | Sammy Kioko’s Heartbreaking Story” — that he had delivered a county project but was never paid.
He also suggested political interference had delayed his payment despite multiple attempts to seek redress.
The interview gained massive attention online, drawing sympathy and pressure on county officials to address the issue.

Machakos County issues official response
In a letter dated November 12, 2025, shared by Obinna on his Facebook page, County Solicitor Juliet Nthambi dismissed Kioko’s statements as false and misleading and accused Obinna of broadcasting unverified information.
The letter, addressed to Steve Thompson Magana (Obinna’s legal name), demanded that he provide official documentation proving Kioko’s business dealings with the county — such as contracts, delivery notes, or payment records.
“The said Sammy Kioko is not a registered supplier with the County Government of Machakos,” the letter stated. “He does not appear as a director or contact person in any company supplying goods or services to the county.”
The solicitor added that no existing contract or procurement record linked Kioko to the county and that the interview had unfairly tarnished the government’s reputation.

Legal warning to Obinna
The county accused Obinna of publishing malicious and unfounded claims, warning that failure to provide proof would result in legal action.
“Your show and the discussion therein were made out of ignorance of facts and the law in respect to procurement and contracts,” read part of the letter.
Nthambi emphasized that only registered and prequalified companies can transact with the government and that third parties — such as Kioko — cannot legally speak on behalf of private firms.
Obinna reacts online
Shortly after receiving the demand letter, Obinna posted it on Facebook, responding with disbelief and humour.
“Wueh ??♂️??♂️… Is this a legit document? Is this real ama naota jamani?” he wrote, tagging Kioko.

He urged Kioko to compile all relevant paperwork and announced that his lawyer would take over the matter. Obinna criticized the county for “making a simple issue huge instead of directly resolving it.”

“A very simple issue being made huge by everyone just avoiding calling Kioko and finding a solution,” he added, later rallying others with similar experiences to speak up.
How the saga began
The saga began weeks earlier when Sammy Kioko camped outside the Machakos Governor’s office, pleading to be paid for a county project he claimed to have completed months ago. In a public appeal on Instagram, Kioko wrote:
“There’s need to be paid. Anyone from Machakos County kindly help. Things are not okay. I have suffered enough.”
His emotional post quickly went viral, drawing sympathy from fans and fellow entertainers who urged the county to settle its dues. Sources close to the comedian said the payment dispute involved a county uniform supply contract, which Kioko claimed to have delivered under a legitimate tender.
Days later, Kioko announced that he was closing his business outlets and production facilities due to financial strain. In another emotional update, he revealed that he was selling his car to raise money for his sister’s medical treatment.
Amid mounting pressure, Joseph Mathuki, the Machakos County Head of Procurement, released a statement dismissing Kioko’s claims as “misleading.”
Mathuki clarified that the tender had been awarded to a registered business entity that did not list Kioko as a director.
He added that the initial phase of the contract faced incomplete deliveries, which delayed payment. Mathuki also stressed that Kioko had “no legal authority” to represent the company in question.

The unfolding drama caught the attention of Oga Obinna, who later invited Kioko to his YouTube show to share his side of the story.
During the emotional interview, Kioko accused the county of betrayal and financial neglect, while Obinna mobilized viewers to assist him.
Fans contributed over KSh 221,000, and former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko publicly pledged to help Kioko recover his payment.
