Kenyan gospel artist Kambua has once again moved fans to tears after opening up about her journey of loss, faith, and healing.
Speaking on “With Chude” podcast, the celebrated singer revealed how she endured five painful years of waiting for a child, a heartbreaking miscarriage, and later the loss of her son, Malachi.
Five Years of Prayer and Heartbreak
Kambua shared that she had prayed for five years to conceive before finally becoming pregnant, only to experience a miscarriage that left her world shattered.
“I prayed for five years to get pregnant then had one miscarriage when I did. Motherhood is a great calling, but it’s not the only calling—and it set me free because, at the time I was not a mother, I was like, of course, God put me here,” she said.

She recalled being told by doctors before conceiving her son Nathaniel that she could never conceive naturally—a report that turned out to be wrong when she went on to conceive all her children naturally.
“My children were all conceived naturally, and again that was a reminder that God did it,” she said.
Battling Negativity and Finding Purpose
Kambua also addressed the pain of public scrutiny, recalling the time she was labeled “barren” in online comments during her struggle to conceive.
“There was a section of negativity, which is expected, but I found freedom when I realized that even before I became a mother, I was already complete,” she said.

The singer, who has since become a mother of three, said she has learned to view motherhood as one of many divine callings—not her only source of identity.

Remembering Her Late Son, Malachi
Kambua’s emotional revelation on the podcast comes just weeks after she shared a deeply personal Instagram post marking Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month in October.
In the post, the Usiku na Mchana singer shared a photo of herself while pregnant, accompanied by a touching tribute to her late son, Malachi, who passed away 2021 shortly after birth.
“Sometimes I don’t feel as brave as I would like to be. This post has been in my drafts for over two weeks. But I will keep finding the courage to share my journey to honor the life of my precious boy, Malachi, and to encourage those who have walked the path that I have,” she wrote.
She continued with a heartfelt message to grieving parents:
“October is pregnancy and infant loss awareness month. I want to remember every mom who’s had to hear the words, ‘I’m sorry, there’s no heartbeat’… The moms who go back home to empty nurseries wondering whether to give their baby’s clothes away, or to hold on to them. Every parent who has known the weight of lifting the smallest caskets.”
Kambua ended her post with a message of hope:
“Malachi, my sweet boy, I know I will see you again in glory. This is the hope I have. For now, I will be okay, because I know you are safe in the arms of Jesus.”
