Activist Boniface Mwangi has publicly endorsed rapper Octopizzo for the Kibra parliamentary seat, just days after the artist hinted that he could be on the ballot in the 2027 general election.
Mwangi took to X (formerly Twitter) to throw his weight behind the musician, citing his long-standing commitment to community work in Kibra.
“Kibra voters, @OCTOPIZZO is your best choice for Member of Parliament! He has served Kibera well as a private citizen, and now it’s time you gave him a mandate to represent you in Parliament! Octo ni msee wa nguvu! Go OCTO, I’m rooting for you,” Mwangi posted.
His endorsement reignited national conversation about the growing intersection between art, activism, and politics in Kenya.

From Mutual Support to Political Endorsement
The activist’s post was a re shared memory from 2017, when Octopizzo had supported Mwangi’s own parliamentary bid in Starehe constituency. At the time, the rapper tweeted:
“S/O to @bonifacemwangi for coming through to Kibera today & showing solidarity ✊? Highly appreciated.”
He humorously added, “2022 si mbali ntakua nafanya na IEBC ?,” — a statement that now appears prophetic as discussions around his political future take shape.
Mwangi’s renewed endorsement serves as a symbolic continuation of their mutual respect and shared vision for social transformation, particularly through youth empowerment and civic engagement.
Octopizzo Hints at Joining Politics in 2027
The endorsement comes just days after Octopizzo, whose real name is Henry Ohanga, hinted at officially joining politics.
The revelation followed a Twitter exchange with Dr. Austine Omondi, who encouraged the rapper to consider a leadership role in the wake of Raila Odinga’s death.

“Hasira iko because we’re still mourning ?. It is not lost on me the work you have done in the community, and we appreciate you. That said, you can do more with your platform and even fill Baba’s shoes in the fight for social justice,” Dr. Omondi wrote.

Octopizzo responded affirmatively, signaling his intent to contest in the next election:
“I completely understand, and we will continue to mourn. Every undemocratic act will always remind us of him. I have heard your request, and inshallah you will see my name on the ballot in Kibra.”
His reply immediately caught the public’s attention, fueling speculation that he may soon transition from music to political leadership.

Octopizzo’s potential entry into politics doesn’t come as a surprise to many. Through the Octopizzo Foundation, he has championed youth empowerment, education, and refugee rights in Kibra and beyond.
His advocacy for social justice and equal opportunities has earned him both national and international recognition.
