Kenyan rapper Octopizzo has hinted that he may join politics, announcing that his name could appear on the ballot for the Kibra parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2027 general election.

The revelation came after an exchange with Dr. Austine Omondi on Twitter , who encouraged him to take on a leadership role following the death of opposition leader Raila Odinga.

“You Will See My Name on the Ballot in Kibra”

In a recent post, Dr. Omondi commended Octopizzo for his contributions to community work but challenged him to do more by stepping into political leadership.

“Hasira iko because we’re still mourning ?. It is not lost on me the work you have done in the community, and we appreciate you. That said, you can do more with your platform and even fill Baba’s shoes in the fight for social justice,” he wrote.

“I completely understand, and we will continue to mourn. Every undemocratic act will always remind us of him. I have heard your request, and inshallah you will see my name on the ballot in Kibra,” he replied.

His comment immediately attracted wide attention across social media, sparking speculation about his political intentions.

Growing Support from Fans

Following Octopizzo’s response, blogger HE Nshion expressed his support for the rapper’s possible entry into politics.

“We will wake very early and vote for Octo, not because he’s a music king, but because he uses his art to call out wrongs, because he values humanity, because he seems to have a plan,” HE Nashion posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Several netizens echoed the sentiment, pointing to Octopizzo’s history of advocacy and his consistent engagement in community initiatives within Kibra, where he was born and raised.

His foundation, the Octopizzo Foundation, has been instrumental in supporting youth empowerment, education, and entrepreneurship projects in underprivileged areas.

A Rising Trend: Celebrities Eyeing 2027 Political Seats

Octopizzo’s statement aligns with a growing trend of Kenyan entertainers and influencers preparing to enter the political scene ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Musician Bahati recently announced plans to contest for the Nairobi governor’s seat, following his previous bid for the Mathare parliamentary seat in 2022.

Fellow artist KRG The Don declared his intention to run for a Member of Parliament position, saying it was time to turn his influence into leadership.

Other public figures such as Kennedy Kabugi and activist Kasmuel McOure have also expressed interest in vying for political positions, signalling a broader shift where creatives are using their platforms to influence policy and governance.

As Kenya heads toward 2027, the intersection between celebrity influence and politics continues to grow, with Octopizzo’s declaration signaling that this movement is far from slowing down.
