Jamaican singer and global star Shenseea has sent an emotional message to her fans and fellow citizens as Hurricane Melissa approaches Jamaica, urging everyone to stay safe and united through the looming disaster.
Taking to her Instagram stories, the “Blessed” hitmaker expressed heartfelt concern for her homeland, writing:
“Praying for my island right now. To everyone in Jamaica, please stay safe, look out for each other, and take all precautions during this hurricane. We’re strong people, and we’ll get through this together. Sending love, strength, and prayers to every corner.”

The post quickly went viral, with fans and fellow celebrities flooding her comments with prayers and words of encouragement.
Hurricane Melissa: A Powerful Storm
Shenseea’s message comes at a time when Hurricane Melissa has been classified as a Category 5 storm, one of the strongest in the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season.
Meteorological reports describe Melissa as a rapidly intensifying tropical cyclone with sustained winds exceeding 157 mph (about 252 km/h).
The hurricane formed over the central Atlantic and has been moving toward the Caribbean, placing Jamaica, Haiti, and parts of Cuba directly in its projected path.

According to forecasts from the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Melissa poses a serious threat due to its extreme winds, heavy rainfall, and slow movement — factors that can magnify destruction and flooding.
Experts warn that Jamaica could experience up to 30–40 inches (76–100 cm) of rainfall, alongside storm surges of up to 13 feet (about 4 meters) along coastal areas.

The government has since issued evacuation advisories for flood-prone regions and activated hundreds of emergency shelters across the island.
A Nation Braces for Impact
The Jamaican government, together with disaster response teams, has urged citizens to prepare for potential power outages, communication disruptions, and blocked roads.
In cities such as Kingston, Portmore, and Montego Bay, residents have been seen securing their homes, stocking up on essentials, and helping neighbors relocate to safer zones.
The last time Jamaica faced a hurricane of comparable strength was Hurricane Gilbert in 1988, which left widespread devastation. Many Jamaicans have taken to social media to share memories of past storms and to encourage one another to remain resilient.
Shenseea’s Message of Hope
Known for her deep connection to her homeland, Shenseea’s message has become a rallying point of encouragement during a time of fear and uncertainty.
Despite her international fame, she has consistently shown pride in her Jamaican roots and often uses her platform to uplift her community.

As the nation braces for Hurricane Melissa, Shenseea’s words reflect not only her love for Jamaica but also the enduring spirit of resilience that defines its people.
