Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has dismissed allegations that he financed goons during recent protests in the city. Speaking during an interview with Milele FM, Sakaja refuted the claims, terming them baseless and politically motivated.
When asked about the accusations, Sakaja firmly denied any involvement, saying,
“To what interest would I do that? Itanisaidia aje? I would never do that.''
Allegations Spark Online Debate
The claims emerged on social media , with several posts suggesting that certain individuals had received funding from political figures to disrupt peaceful demonstrations.
The protests, which took place in various parts of Nairobi, were reportedly organised to address issues related to governance and the rising cost of living.
Following the unrest, some online users began circulating unverified claims implicating the governor in the chaos, alleging that he sponsored groups to interfere with the demonstrators.

Sakaja maintained that he has always prioritised peace and order in the capital, emphasising that his administration is focused on service delivery and development not political gamesmanship.
The governor highlighted his long track record in leadership, pointing out that he has never been associated with acts of violence or incitement.
'' I have been in leadership for a long time. I’ll never hurt my people,” he firmly stated during the interview.
Calls for Calm and Verification
The controversy has attracted mixed reactions from Nairobi residents and political observers. Some have called for investigations to establish the truth behind the allegations, while others have defended Sakaja, citing his reputation for promoting calm during tense political moments.
Political analysts note that such claims often surface during periods of heightened political tension, especially when demonstrations expose divisions between leaders and their constituents.
Maintaining Stability in Nairobi
Governor Sakaja reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all Nairobi residents, stating that he will continue to work with law enforcement and community leaders to prevent violence and maintain order.

The governor also urged Kenyans to verify information before sharing it online, warning that false accusations can damage reputations and incite unnecessary tension.
