Ida Odinga has assured Kenyans that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is fine , dismissing widespread rumours suggesting otherwise.
Speaking at a public function in Nyanza on Tuesday, Ida firmly stated that there is no cause for alarm regarding her husband’s well-being and urged the public to ignore misleading reports circulating online.
“Raila Odinga is fine,” she said. “Someone who is not staying with him knows that Raila is sick, yet I don’t know?”
Ida questioned how people who do not live with Raila could claim to have information about his health, insisting that the stories were completely baseless.
Her remarks brought calm to worried supporters who had been concerned by unverified claims that the ODM leader was unwell.

Online Speculation Sparks Concern
Speculation over Raila’s health had spread rapidly on social media, prompting confusion among Kenyans and forcing the family to speak out.
The rumours were fuelled by bloggers and online commentators who alleged that the veteran politician had been flown abroad for medical attention.

Ida’s statement comes as a reassuring confirmation that the opposition leader remains in good condition, actively engaged in his usual activities.
ODM Condemns “Malicious Fabrications”
A few days before Ida’s address, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) had issued a strong statement condemning the false reports about Raila’s health.
In a detailed clarification released on Sunday morning, Raila’s office confirmed that he had indeed travelled abroad on Friday evening, but emphasised that the trip had nothing to do with any medical reasons.
“Hon. Raila travelled out of the country on Friday evening one of many trips he has made this year, and certainly not the last,” the statement read in part.
The party further explained that Raila did not travel to Europe, contrary to online claims, and accused political actors, allegedly led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, of spreading misinformation for political mileage.

ODM described the reports as “malicious fabrications” aimed at distracting the public from more important national issues.
“It is unfortunate that political desperation has reached the level where opponents resort to spreading falsehoods about someone’s health. These tactics are not only unethical but also inhumane,” the statement read.
Call for Responsible Reporting
The party also criticised some mainstream media outlets for relying on unverified onlinecontent, including AI-generated images, which they aired as investigative reports without fact-checking.
ODM warned that such actions were eroding public trust and contributing to unnecessary anxiety among Kenyans.
Ida’s Message Brings Closure
By speaking publicly, Ida Odinga’s assurance has effectively put an end to speculation, reaffirming that the ODM leader remains healthy and active.
Her message served as both a reassurance to supporters and a warning to those spreading misinformation, highlighting the need for truth and integrity in public communication.

As she concluded, Ida urged Kenyans to focus on facts, not rumours, and to remain united as the nation heads into another politically charged season.
