Nairobi's Chief Officer for Environment, Geoffrey Mosiria, is considering hiring two men he rescued from the streets as his bodyguards, in a move that has drawn attention on social media.

Mosiria, known for his urban clean-up and street rehabilitation initiatives, posted photos of himself with the two men, who appeared transformed after being taken in from their previous lives.

Mosiria asked for people’s opinion on the matter, saying that many people on the internet had already pressured him to make them part of his security detail.

“On the internet, people are saying the 'Tree Man' (the street man I rescued from Jogoo Road who was living on top of a tree) and the 'Rasta Man' (the street man I rescued who was living next to Railways Golf Club) could make good bodyguards. Majamaa inaweza?” he asked.

Mosiria's posts show a striking contrast between the two men's past and present. They are now seen walking around the streets with the official, well-groomed, and dressed in smart attire.

One man, previously known as the "Tree Man" for living on top of a tree on Jogoo Road, and the other, the "Rasta Man" who lived near the Railways Golf Club, are now wearing suits and looking sharp.

In one of the photos, the two are seen with Mosiria, with the Tree Man wearing a dark jacket over a blue shirt and a tie, while the Rasta Man wears a full black suit with a red tie.

While rescuing the second rastaman, Mosiria joked that he might be linked to Nyandarua Senator John Methu.

“Senator Kaba Methu, could this be your brother suffering in the streets? Meanwhile, as a government, we have rescued him and he can now smile like any other Kenyan,” he posted.

A History of Helping

The move to hire the men as bodyguards aligns with Mosiria's history of giving back to the community and rehabilitating street people.

He has previously been praised for his efforts in cleaning up the city and cracking down on unhygienic street food vendors.

Two weeks ago, Mosiria touched many hearts after rescuing a man who was living in a makeshift shelter on top of a tree along the busy Jogoo Road.

After rescuing the second man, Mosiria gave an update on the first rastaman, saying he is happy with his transformation and the aspiration he has in life.

“I am truly happy to see him smile again after sharing with me the struggles he has faced in life. This is a step toward transformation, and I believe with the right support, he can rebuild his life with dignity.”
