Eric Omondi, a well-known comedian and philanthropist, has shared how his younger brother, Fred Omondi's, death became the most significant tragedy of his life. It was a loss that deepened his commitment to activism and charity.
In a recent interview with Galston Antony that was aired on 2nd Tuesday, September 2025, he explained how Fred's passing in June 2024 changed him.
While he had experienced other family losses, his brother's death affected him profoundly.
A Shared Journey
Eric and Fred were more than just brothers; they were partners in comedy, having started their careers together.

They both left their village for Nairobi and worked their way up, even appearing on the popular show Churchill. This shared history made the loss particularly devastating for Eric.
"I lost my mum in 2002, my dad in 2004, my big brother in 2016, but those deaths never hit me the way my brother's hit me because my brother and I were close—we hustled together, we came from the village to Nairobi, we went to Churchill together. I think his death affected me more than the other members of the family.”
From Grief to Purpose
Despite the immense pain, Eric found a new sense of purpose in his grief.

Fred's death became a powerful catalyst, inspiring him to fight harder for social justice and to help those in need.
“My brother’s death strangely gave me purpose and reason to fight more. I felt like I owed it to him and to Kenyans, to ensure that we win this fight. I increased my activism, I increased my philanthropy, and I am fighting more for Kenyans after that.”
He now runs a movement called Sisi Kwa Sisi, which translates to "Us for Us." It supports struggling Kenyans and advocates for social change. For Eric, his late brother's memory is the driving force behind his battles.
A Tragic End

Fred Omondi died in a road accident in Nairobi on June 15, 2024. His burial took place on June 29 in Sega, Siaya County, and was attended by many public figures and mourners who celebrated his life and legacy.
For Eric, the pain of losing Fred remains, but so does the fiery passion it ignited within him.
