Boniface Muchiri's career is hitting new highs. The Harambee Stars winger and Ulinzi Stars captain has earned a promotion in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
This follows his brilliant performances at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Muchiri has been elevated from Senior Private to Corporal. This recognition highlights his success in both football and military service.

A Symbol of Excellence
The promotion ceremony was a major event. Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF) General Charles Kahariri oversaw the occasion. Major General Luka Kutto of Eastern Command officially pinned the new rank on Muchiri.
General Kahariri praised the 28-year-old, calling him a symbol of "discipline, consistency, and excellence." He also stressed that the KDF is committed to nurturing and rewarding talent among its personnel.
A Public Appeal
Muchiri's promotion came after a public plea. Harambee Stars skipper Aboud Omar had appealed directly to President William Ruto to honour the player for his dual service.

During the CHAN tournament, Muchiri’s contributions helped Kenya reach the quarter-finals in their debut CHAN appearance.
Two assists from Muchiri helped Kenya progress to the quarter-finals.
This was a historic debut for Kenya at the CHAN tournament.
A Millionaire’s Promise
On top of his new stripes, Muchiri and his teammates pocketed more than Sh5 million each in rewards from President Ruto, Raila Odinga, and Sports CS Salim Mvurya. But unlike most athletes, Muchiri already knows exactly where his windfall is going.
“All this is for one person—my mother,” he said, “She has been my advisor, my biggest supporter. Everything I do today is because of her, and I pray to give her the best life she deserves.”
Discipline and Reward

For Muchiri, the recognition is a significant honour. It proves that hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed.
“This is a great honour. The military has instilled in me discipline and resilience, and I’m proud to be an example that good performances are rewarded.”
He believes that his success demonstrates a simple truth: football can change lives, but only if you have discipline both on and off the pitch.
