Former Chief Justice David Maraga, a declared presidential aspirant for the 2027 general elections, has revealed that his campaign has quickly amassed over 500,000 Kenyan shillings within just two days of launching his campaign website, Davidaga.com.
Speaking on K24 TV, Maraga expressed immense confidence in his bid, stating, "very confident, very confident, people are tired, people just want change".

The financial contributions received from Kenyans, both locally and in the diaspora, are seen by Maraga as a strong indicator of the public's desire for change.
"I mean, within two days in Kenya, we had more than 500,000 shillings, and some of those in the diaspora are putting in dollars. That tells you that the Kenyans want change," he asserted.
Maraga's primary motivation for seeking the presidency stems from a deep concern over the current state of governance and the electoral system. He laments that the president is weaponizing the judicial system against Kenyans.

Maraga believes that Parliament, which is constitutionally mandated to take action, including impeachment, when the president violates the constitution, has been "captured" by the president and is therefore failing in its duties.
"The president is terrorizing his people; he’s weaponizing the justice system against his people. Parliament is supposed to take action when the president is violating the constitution, but it is captured, so it cannot. Since parliament is not doing it, I’ve come up and I have support to remove him in 2027,” Maraga said.
A cornerstone of Maraga's proposed changes, if given the opportunity, is to reform the electoral system in Kenya.
He aims to dismantle the current system, which he views as corrupted by stolen wealth, preventing capable leaders without financial resources from participating effectively.
"This issue of spending billions of shillings... all that money is money that they have stolen," he noted.
His vision is to create an environment where young people, women, and anyone with leadership qualities can be elected, regardless of their financial status.
Maraga's campaign is banking on the public's weariness with the status quo, and the initial financial outpouring suggests a segment of the Kenyan populace is ready to back his push for fundamental changes in leadership and the electoral process.
