CNN journalist Larry Madowo celebrated his birthday with a big smile and his usual friendly style. He shared a happy photo of himself on social media and asked a fun question that made many Kenyans laugh and join the conversation.
On his Instagram post he captioned, “Chat, it’s my birthday! Please teach me an unusual life hack you swear by.”
As expected, one person who did not hold back in marking the milestone was his long-time friend and fellow international journalist, Edith Kimani.
The journalist shared a nostalgic video montage on Instagram showing her and Larry at a museum in France, first back in 2018 and again in 2025 at the very same spot.
The clip cheekily contrasted Larry’s receding hairline from the earlier clip to his current bald-and-bearded look, while Edith’s glowing skin and warm smile remained constant.
She accompanied the video with a sweet message, “Happy birthday, Larry Madowo. Here’s to never asking for permission to be yourself. May everything you desire always find you. Cheers.”
Larry’s birthday was more than just a personal celebration as it became a moment for Kenyans to reflect on how much they appreciate him as a journalist and storyteller.
From his early days at Nation Media Group to his current role at CNN, Larry has built a reputation for integrity, sharp insight, and fearless reporting.
Last month he rescued a group of protesters in the Nairobi CBD who had been cornered by police officers. His intervention saved them during the memorial protests on Wednesday, June 25.
The protesters were filmed begging the journalist not to leave, fearing for their lives. They had been cornered in a blocked alley, allegedly assaulted, and teargassed by the men in uniform.

They accused the police officers of beating them up and then using tear gas on them.
"What is going on? Why are you here?" Larry Madowo asked one young man, who was visibly choking from tear gas.
"We were just peaceful. Trying to express ourselves, express our views, but unfortunately, we were cornered, and we have been teargassed," the young man said.
The journalist then asked the protesters to leave the place with him. "Let's go," he told them.
Many Kenyans lauded Larry for his heroic move, which saved the poor protesters.
