WhatsApp has seen remarkable growth in its monthly active users since its inception.

Starting with 200 million users in April 2013, the platform steadily increased its user base, reaching 500 million by April 2014.

By February 2016, WhatsApp had hit the 1 billion MAU mark. This impressive growth continued, with the platform reaching 2 billion users in March 2020.

As of March 2025, WhatsApp boasts a staggering 3 billion monthly active users.

WhatsApp was acquired by social network Facebook for 19 billion U.S. dollars in February 2014.
