Lang’ata MP Felix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, recently opened up about his remarkable life journey in a heartfelt interview with media personality Dr. Ofweneke.
Reflecting on his rise from humble beginnings to a prominent politician, Jalang’o shared poignant anecdotes about his late father’s influence and his own resilience.
When asked what he would tell his father if he could speak to him for a moment, Jalang’o quipped, “I’d be shocked!”
He revealed that his father’s final letter urged him to educate his brothers and build a home for his mother—goals he nearly achieved before his father’s passing.
“He died the day I got my first job. He’d be proud; I’d even buy him a Ford Ranger to show off in the village,” Jalang’o added with a laugh, noting that becoming an MP was his personal milestone.
The lively conversation, filled with shared laughter, touched on a memory of Jalang’o buying Dr. Ofweneke his first TV.

Recounting his roots, Jalang’o said, “I was born in Homa Bay. I was admitted to Maseno School but arrived two months late, losing my spot.”
He attended Bar Kanyango Secondary instead, wearing a Maseno uniform all term because his father couldn’t afford a new one. After Form 4, unable to fund university, Jalang’o became a fishmonger by Lake Victoria.
“My dad gave me two shirts, two trousers, and told me to go to Nairobi and be strong,” he recalled.
Jalang’o shared how he met comedian Otoyo, his director at the National Theatre, where they bonded over Luo plays.
He also recounted a humorous incident of forgetting he owned a car after securing a loan.
Reflecting on his radio career, he said, “At Milele FM, I was paid well, but during COVID, they tried to cut my salary. I refused, got fired, and was jobless for just two hours!” His quick rebound showcased his hustle and value to the industry.
On entering politics, Jalang’o explained, “The Communications Authority required leaving professional work to run for office, so I started my campaign.”
